Inspired by the folk song “If I Needed You” by Townes Van Zandt, this original painting combines expressive abstraction with handwritten fragments of poetry.

Created in the aftermath of a six-year relationship, the artist channels feelings of loss, vulnerability, and resilience through raw linework, layered text, and childlike imagery. Phrases scattered across the canvas read like personal confessions, moving between tenderness, humour, and emotional protection.

The composition loosely follows a classic landscape structure — a skyline dividing the canvas — forming a symbolic emotional terrain. A recurring opening within the painted frame acts as a visual escape route, a motif often found in the artist's work that reflects the search for relief from intense feeling.
